Growing together

Whoever you are, wherever you're from, you are welcome here.

Our Youth possess an enthusiasm for Christ, a desire to learn about Him, and a yearning to be his hands and feet, which make them a unique and vital part of the church body. Our role, at Austin Avenue, is to foster this desire and to encourage our young people to maintain a life-long thirst to be Christ-followers.

youth bible class

At Austin Avenue, study of the Bible is the core of our Christian belief.  Our youth are encouraged to be in the Word daily, and regular age-appropriate adult and youth-directed Bible studies encourage ongoing spiritual growth, participation in corporate worship, and Discipleship. The youth meet during class time Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM.

Growing Disciples means "doing life" together, and weekly devotionals help to accomplish just that. Our youth meet Sunday evenings at 6:00 PM at various hosting church members' homes. During this time, they participate in lessons, singing, and a meal, in order to build relationships and be examples of Christ in our world.

The zone

The Family Life Center is the "gathering place" of Austin Avenue when not in worship in the auditorium. Within this space, the youth have their very own safe place to have Bible class, gather, worship, study, and "do life" together in "The Zone".

Impact church

Every December and July, the youth travel to Houston to Impact Church, an inner city church providing many ministries for those in need.
  • During the Christmas weekend trip, the youth are paired with a "buddy", having the opportunity to shop for their buddy's needs, to enjoy a meal together, and to spend time together doing a fun activity.
  • During the summer week-long trip, the youth plan, organize, and execute the final week of Impact's six-week long VBS (Vacation Bible School) program.  This is an invaluable opportunity for the youth to teach and mentor young Christians, fostering in them a sense of responsibility for discipleship.

Mission trips

Every other year, the youth participate in a foreign mission trip, fulfilling Jesus's command to make Disciples of all nations. Most recently, they traveled to the location of a newly planted church in Cochabamba, Bolivia, where they assisted with church construction and painting and spread the Word through various community events.   Recent trips also included a visit to Austin Avenue's missionaries in The Philippines, where they assisted with a VBS, planted gardens, and helped with various service projects.

Backwoods Trek

The youth have the opportunity to participate in a chaperoned, week-long, backwoods expedition, complete with packing, hiking, camping, and a unique opportunity for personal and faith development.

Winter fest

Sponsored by Oklahoma Christian University in Arlington, TX, this youth conference is a weekend trip for our youth. Here, they meet young Christians from all over the country, participate in conference sessions and classes, listen to speakers, and grow in faith.

North Texas Leadership Training for Christ is a state-wide competition held in Dallas, TX over Easter weekend in which our children, youth, and adult sponsors/chaperones/teachers proudly participate. Young followers of Christ (3rd-12th grade) compete in teams and as individuals in song-leadership, speech, art, public speaking/preaching, Bible Quiz, and more.

Camp Blue Haven

The children and youth (5th-12th grade) have the opportunity to attend Camp Blue Haven, a Bible Camp in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Las Vegas, NM, during the summers. Camp Blue Haven is a wonderful opportunity for children and youth to develop their faith in a fun and active way by participating in campfire services, Chapel, music classes, morning devotionals, Bible classes, cookouts, talent shows, sleep outs, hiking, fishing, sports, archery, handicrafts, air riflery, and ropes courses.
